Owen Armstrong. Showing October 28 - December 23
Born in the South West of England, Owen Armstrong moved to Canada in 2012. His painting and photographic work explores a range of subjects including portraiture, architecture, industry, community, erotica, and travel. The work on display at The Next Act is from an ongoing series exploring various Edmonton locales and the atmosphere of their interiors.
Through a combination of fluid, abstract expressionism, and sharp, linear perspective, the paintings are roughly etched echoes of the spaces they represent, drawing the viewer’s eye into each respective vanishing point.
Each piece is made of several textural layers that comprise of pastel sketches overlayed with multiple applications of acrylic, like a topographic map of each interior. They evoke a sense of familiarity with each space while also presenting them in a new and abstract manner.
All pieces on display are available for sale, as are prints in various sizes.
